  • Interview: Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia X
    - To be published in couple of days here at Sailfish OS Reviews

Software updates and new features

  • Sailfish OS 2.1.2
    - Status: In internal development. Will support 64bit ARM processors, at least Qualcomm Snapdragon 650.
    - Release schedule in not announced. This OS version is expected to enter Cbeta testing among selected community members during July 2017.
  • Sailfish OS 2.1.1
    - Status: Released as for Inoi R7 developers (Russia). Elsewhere, still in internal development. Release is expected first for users in the Early Adopter program.
    - Release schedule is not announced. Following the average gap between releases the EA version can be expected during May July 2017 for Jolla Phone, Jolla C and Jolla Tablet. Public release could take any time from one week to few months after the EA release. The gap between two latest releases was 4 months and 11 days.
    - Features expected are at least L10n translations by the community. Translations have been possible for both open source parts and some of the closed source (proprietary) parts of the Sailfish OS user interface. Also updates to Bluetooth and updates for using of virtual private networks (VPN) can be expected. These were already implemented in the previous update as beta stage features, more advanced users can already run tests with them.
  • Sailfish OS Iijoki
    - Status: Released for Jolla Phone, Jolla C and Jolla Tablet on April 11, 2017
    - Release for 3rd party manufacturers (e.g. Intex) is scheduled separately by the manufacturers
  • Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia X (UPDATE: supported since upcoming release 2.1.2.x)
    - Sailfish OS was expected to be available for this device by June, but there's been challenges delaying this project:
    - Jolla will first deliver Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia X on July 2017 for a limited number of community members invited to "Cbeta" testing group. This is supposed to happen during July 2017. Depending on their findings and feedback, wider availability might get delayed even further
    - Sailfish OS will be available to download (not pre-installed) for Sony Xperia X owners at some point after the version is stable enough to be shared. My guess would be at some point between August 2017 to the end of the year.
    - Jolla focuses their development for Xperia X, single SIM only. Other devices listed on Sony Open Device program might join in later, seemingly also depending on the community efforts on porting those devices. Jolla will also carefully check their resources on selecting the officially supported devices.
    - Android support should be included. Jolla's update seemingly confirmed that Jolla is working on delivering Sailfish OS for Xperia X including Android support, but that they might need some time on developing and testing it on this 64bit device.?- Jolla: We’ll update the situation and schedule with you once the Cbeta testing starts.
  • Sailfish China OS, based on Sailfish OS, reached implementation phase on April 2017 and is expected to be finalized latest in September 2017. Press release (PDF)
